“Empowering the North African Partnership through Inclusiveness and Engagement in Research and Innovation in the field of Food and Nutrition Security, and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA)”
Within the framework of LEAP4FNSSA project, an EU-funded Coordination and Support Action (CSA) under H2020, the 1st Raising awareness meeting is going to be organized in Marrakech (MO) on 18th of March, hosted by the Ministry of High Education, Science and Research of Egypt and the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies – Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari in close collaboration with the 5th African Regional Conference on Irrigation and Drainage.
The overall aim of LEAP4FNSSA is to create a support platform for the implementation of the EU-Africa Research and Innovation partnership on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA), by increasing synergies and coherence between actors, research and innovation projects, initiatives and programmes, through the development of institutional alliances and clusters of projects.
After a successful launch of LEAP4FNSSA’s North African Chapter in Cairo back to back with the 10th African Food Day in October 2019, this workshop in Marrakech will serve as a continuity to the activities and outcomes of this inauguration. The event will focus on Empowering the North African community through Inclusiveness and Engagement in the Food and Nutrition Security, and Sustainable Agriculture Sector to start building a regional network of the relevant actors and start identifying (and possibly recruiting) parties interested to join the EU AU FNSSA partnership.
The expected outcomes of the event are (i) Reflections on top down strategies vs bottom up strategies of information processing and knowledge sharing between different groups of stakeholders. (ii) Proposals on various channels of participation and involvement in the FNSSA platform per each group. (iii) Development of an action plan to implement the North African Partnerships in the FNSSA sector.
The meeting will convene Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture experts from selected ministries, government directorates, universities, research institutions, private sector, cooperation agencies, research funding agencies, stakeholders and end-users’ representatives from Morocco and the North African region countries and European Countries.
