3rd Independent Food System Summit Dialogue on “Pathways for the future of Sustainable Food Systems in the Mediterranean”

December 9, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Background

Throughout the year, countries and stakeholders around the world, including in the Mediterranean, convened and participated in Food Systems Summit Dialogues (FSSDs), in preparation for the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) that took place in September 2021. They explored the challenges faced in food systems and exchanged on the most powerful ways to make food systems more sustainable. The outcomes of these dialogues served as inputs for the development of regional and national pathways for food systems transformation in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Within this context, two SFS-MED1 Independent Dialogues on “Pathways for the future of sustainable food systems in the Mediterranean” were jointly convened by the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the One Planet Network’s Sustainable Food Systems Programme (OPN-SFSP) and the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA). The outcomes of these dialogues and their key messages were synthesised in this executive brief.

Objectives

This third SFS-MED dialogue is designed to:

  • take stock of regional and national efforts in support of the follow-up to the UNFSS;
  • exchange on the way forward and identify opportunities for collaboration at national and regional level.
